BTI & BOI applications - what is this?

Binding Tariff Information (BTI) is a formal statement about the classification of specific product issued by customs officials. It's similar to receiving a ruling that specifies how products will be classified.

Applying for a BTI has the benefit of providing legal certainty up front. Product's classification will be known with certainty, and this information remains valid for three years. The best thing is that this judgment applies to all customs authorities in the European Union. It simplifies and decreases the possibility of problems when importing and exporting goods within the EU.

A certificate known as Binding Origin Information (BOI) confirms the legitimacy of a product's origin. The holder and EU customs authorities are both bound by the written decision. BOI must be requested in writing to the relevant EU authorities and is valid for three years, same as BTI. Even though one may have a BOI, they are still obligated to provide proof of origin when asked. In conclusion, BOI makes it simpler to declare origin to customs by providing governmental clarity regarding the origin of commodities.

AEO - what is it?

The World Customs Organization (WCO) created the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) idea, which is a cooperation between enterprises and customs officials. Traders who voluntarily meet particular criteria and work closely with customs to maintain supply chain security may be eligible for benefits throughout the EU.

To qualify for AEO designation, the applicant and customs must have a transparent, correct, fair, and accountable relationship. The European Union AEO program was formed in 2008 as part of the "security amendments" to the "Community Customs Code" (CCC).

The program's purpose is to increase international supply chain security while also making legitimate trade easier for all supply chain operators. Customs simplification (AEOC), security and safety (AEOS), or a mix of the two can be granted to economic operators.
